Quite the contrary, I thoroughly reviewed and tested this device. Thats why I know that my device's current functioning is not acceptable. I was among the first in this forum before it was even the Hero forum. I've compared it to every device Sprint offers as well as on the competing carriers. I've compared across OS's as well (Winmo, iPhone and blackberry though less extensively). I am coming from a considerable list if winmo devices before this phone as well as working for cell phone retailers where I've been able to test phones. I say all this to say that I have researched quite thoroughly, but any techie will tell you even the best phone has issues, some issues that will be annoying, and some issues that despite all research before purchasing the device, wont become apparent until after you have used the device for a considerable amount of time. I am coming most recently from the Touch Pro, and like you I was initially impressed (and still am to a degree) by the Hero. But as time progresses and the novelty wears off I have to say I am becoming more and more disappointed, but I know that it can and probably will get better. This phone is excellent and with more speed and processing power I would have virtually no complaints. So is it better than a lot of other options yes, but is it flawed yes. I value and appreciate your opinion, but do not appreciate the accusations that I have failed to review before "downing" the phone.

Thank you to all of you who have attempted to address my issue. And to thacounty, can I just flash the kernel similar to how you flash an entire rom? I don't really know how to keep my fresh 1.1 and flash a different kernel. Thanks in advance (I'll just hit thanks now for the suggestions you've made and those to come )

Edit: Just saw the info i need in the upgrade section after posting, downloading now! thanks anyway!

Personally, I have looked at all the other Os's you mentioned, but when I am saying that it lags I am primarily comparing it to itself. Looking at the speed it possessed when I first got it, when running different roms and compared to other Hero's head to head. My secondary comparison would be to other Android devices taking into consideration of course hardware (and software) differences. Then thirdly just where I feel it should be. I know that sounds vague and is highly subjective but as has been stated in this thread already, there is a certain level of expectation that I should reasonably be able to multi task and still have things function in a timely matter. When I click something it shouldn't take 5-10 (or more) seconds to open. Opening contacts or text or scrolling through menus should not become laborious and frustrating, this device is supposed to simplify my busy life.

Sorry if I'm all over the place I was trying to post from class and then had to wait til I got home to finish so my thoughts may be a little scattered lol
I know you said you got it, but I am just making sure. Haha. Do it just like a rom. That is correct. Then you need to get SetCpu from the market for 99cents or from XDA for free, its free for Members of XDA, but I will prob purchase because it is a great app!

Make sure you get Gumbo .31, or whatever his latest is. It isn't in the upgrades. It is on Androidcentral.com forums. Prob easiest to search androidcentral sprint hero roms and it will come up. He also is @gbhil on Twitter and when he releases he posts.

As always Nandroid Backup and flash.
