New to Flashing, need tips for a backup!

Evening everyone,

I'm growing increasingly antsy about flashing to a new ROM, preferably MightyROM, Juicy, or NRG "Leo." However, I am always one to over-prepare and provide a way out for myself.

That being said, I would really appreciated if you guys could help me develop a guide for backing up all of your information/data/contacts/cabs/registry/etc so that, in a pinch, you could easily flash right back to stock or previous configurations.

I have looked around on the web for how to "clone" a PPC so that one could just re-image it like a PC, but the products are woefully expensive. So my question is:

What programs can safely be used to backup different aspects of a ROM installation? How can I easily create a folder of backup files that allow me to revert to a previous configuration with the fewest possible steps?

XDA_UC?
SPB Backup?
Sprite?
Sashimi?
???

Thanks!
