I hear ya... I actually do a manual install of apps and reg keys... I am using SPB strictly for PIM data, ie contacts/texts/calendar, and can't imagine why this would cause issues... it doesn't on any other ROMs I use...

When you do your backup, are you doing a "Full Backup" or a "Custom Backup" where you specify only specific data files? SPB Backup also has a Device and ROM upgrade mode, where it detects a ROM or device change and prompts for the appropriate restore method.

I have always used Activesync/Mobile Device Center and not had issues. The key is to know the right sequence to set up syncing with a new device, and part of that is based on whether you sync wirelessly with an Exchange server (which I do). I always set up the partnership, uncheck all of the sync items, then establish my Exchange server settings. Only after Exchange is configured do I go back and select items to sync. This avoids the problem where you are synching to both the PC and Exchange and end up with duplicate contacts, calender entries, etc.
