I know others have reported issues with restoring from SPB Backup or other similar applications. The problem is that it can back up too much information, such as application settings or registry entries that can be incompatible with a new ROM.

When you do your backup, are you doing a "Full Backup" or a "Custom Backup" where you specify only specific data files? SPB Backup also has a Device and ROM upgrade mode, where it detects a ROM or device change and prompts for the appropriate restore method.

I have always used Activesync/Mobile Device Center and not had issues. The key is to know the right sequence to set up syncing with a new device, and part of that is based on whether you sync wirelessly with an Exchange server (which I do). I always set up the partnership, uncheck all of the sync items, then establish my Exchange server settings. Only after Exchange is configured do I go back and select items to sync. This avoids the problem where you are synching to both the PC and Exchange and end up with duplicate contacts, calender entries, etc.
