The reason why every program won't work is because when you install a program, most programs also install registry keys. So unless you save each individual registry key for every program, then it will never fully work and this "idea" really isn't a good idea.
A program should always be installed fresh or you'll be leaving behind necessary registry keys for that program to fully work properly.
