XBox
Their model was to sell the hardware below cost and woo developers (cue Ballmer, lol). That is, MS ate the cost difference on the XBox in order to gain market penetration. And by golly it worked. To put in perspective, MS did not even turn a profit on the XBox platform till mid 2008--six years after release and after they lost, literally, hundreds of millions of dollars.
I'm not saying I know MS will do the same with Seven, but I sure as hell would not be shocked. They have the pockets to do it and they are stubborn MoFos when they decided to do something.
Shoot, I kind of hope they do that. Put dream tech into the hands of ordinary people at below cost? That would crush their competitors or at least drain their resources. A wart of attrition, lol.

microsoft lost 4 billion dollars off the original xbox
but MS owned xbox and its right MS does not own LG...LG wants the profit and not MS....that is a big difference....
