You shouldn't be able to make a ROM that's too big anymore (leading to lock ups and WSOD), unless you have 2.04/2.05 (which has a slightly smaller (300KB) partition size that I haven't accounted for yet in the configuration files).

ROM files for the Apache are fixed size - they're always 64MB, regardless of how much or how little you try to pack in them.
