Look at it like this, first we had EVDO, then EVDO Rev A, and now even EVDO rev B is available. You didn't need a new device to take advantage of these speed increases with these new technologies. Like the mogul for instance didn't work on on rev a at first, but received a radio update to support it. The same will be true for wimax. HSPA is not as new of a technology as wimax, therefore it has already had time to mature. HSPA will not and mark my words BE FATSER THEN wimax when it's all said and done. If that were the case carriers wouldn't be switching over to LTE. Currently it may be faster but WIMAX is still being built and worked on. HSPA has pretty muched reached it's peak of about 21mbps. Just wait and see only time will tell.
Not to mention Clear is in talks with Wal-Mart right now to put towers at all wal-mart locations... which would expand the 4G network even more.
