It works for me... of course by "works" I mean that it shows me within 95000 Meters of my location
This was the case on the older version of Google Maps as well for me.
So I've always used GPS with Google Maps, just thought that was the norm.
Question-why would you use Google Maps without GPS? Satellite signal issues I suppose?
