BTW, that blink/blank behavior is by design. It has to do that in order to turn the lights back on.

Oh, well that stinks that it does that blink/blank thing. It makes me nervous but at least now I know its not just mine. Thank you for explaining.
I re-installed it this morning and so my KB is lighting on and off again. I was hoping to find out that there was a way to fix the behavior but oh well ....
