It seems to work fine for me.
I shut autro rotate off.
Key Board in, Phone Portrait I start Opera 10 Beta 2 and it's Portrait.
I pull KeyBoard Out, Opera is LandScape.
I put KeyBoard In, Opera is Portrait.
If I close Opera it will return to portrait (what I started with before launching opera) KeyBoard In or Out.
