Are your issues straight from flash or did those features work then stop working?
How are you trying to access the MaxManilla settings? For 2.7 you need to scroll up/down, not left/right.
How are you trying to change the background? Works fine for me. I go to either the Menu soft key on the Home tab or from the Settings tab. I posted awhile back that you may need to toggle through the Wallpaper settings on the MaxManila settings to see the change but of course you'd need to be able to access those settings first
There's no trick to changing from ABC to numerics and/or symbols and back, same as usual.
Based on your post I cant tell if you got a bad flash or if you might have installed something that broke things. The ROM is stable as any I've tried so your issues are fixable, just need some more info. Post back.
