If I'm not mistaken, MetroPCS requires the use of a proxy server, which is generally programmed into the connection settings. However, it may be that the apps your having trouble with either have their own proxy settings (rather than using the system's settings) or just don't support proxy servers. For Opera I'm guessing the former, rather than the latter. For Beejive IM, I'm not sure as I've never used it, so if there's nowhere in the settings to specify a proxy, then it may not support it.
And if I am mistaken and MetroPCS doesn't require the use of a proxy, just forget everything I just said
