Changed the frameskip to 5 and now I'm doing much better, sitting at about 40 fps instead of 18-20. Now how do I save it if I feel the need to? It's not letting me...
Edit, and this is all WITH sound, so this so far is a huge improvement (just need to figure out how to play the game past the first fight seen!).
