Its so so so so stupid! Same thing happened to me TWICE!
The easiest thing is to plug it in to a/c...theres two different backlight settings, one for no a/c and one for plugged in, so usually only one gets changed.
WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY LET YOU TURN THE BACKLIGHT OFF?
It's a BREAK-MY-PHONE button....
