It has nothing to do with them being con artists, it has to do with what's productive and trying to find mutually beneficial solutions. When i have a problem with something i'm polite but firm, and always treat the person on the other end of the phone or the other side of the counter like a human being. Is that being a con-artist?

It's called social engineering. Nobody wants to be treated like crap. You will ALWAYS get better results if you are polite or even nice. WOW!! There is a concept! At the end of the day, the words of my grandmother ring true...
