U may have screwed up some config files, a white square usualy means it trying to display a charecter thats not a normal one. (english charecter) A hard reset maybe the short, easy answer.
also, you can copy and paste in texts messages, just not when in the HTC messaging mode.
In the WM style messaging (green and blue text) all you have to do to be able to select text and not scroll is:
hit menu, flick down to "select messages" and hit "several" then press and hold you finger on the screen and select "make selection" this disables the scrolling animation and allows you to highlight text.
Then of course when you have ur selected text highlighted, press and hold that area and hit "copy" Scrolling is reenabled and your free to press and hold the input area for your text and hit "paste."
WM6 still have it core functionality but its a lil bit of work accessing em, cuz We HAD TO HAVE SCROLLING ANIMATIONS like the You know what.
