I thought but could be wrong! On his and most roms you can edit the reg and get phone keypad as an option.
HKLM/Software/HTC/EZSIP change the value of BIOTOSHOWMENU to1 and the phone keypad option should pop up. If this does work for his rom usuall you have to do this edit after every restart.
