What happened to Windows Mobile's 6.5 UI ?

I remember January of 2009 and testing two ROMS that had an early beta release of Windows Mobile 6.5. My question is why did they null most of the UI.

First off it had a nice looking slider, ( i have the Raphael ROM with this beta ROM if someone wants

-It had an option to add the original 3 icon with hexagonal background arrangement.

I added a few screenshots with the green colored dialer button aswell as the buttons menu which is green/black instead of blue/grey. Being on an HTC device i prefer the green/black button combo

-pre-RTM backgrounds never made it out. What ever happened to the stock set of 6.5 backgrounds including landscapes and animals in HD. Surprised Bird? i thought he was cool and looked bright on the screen

Included a screen that shows a beta 6.5 Windows Media Player enhancement(besides the MS menu enhancements) that never made it out of development either.

Whatever happened to being able to skin the start menu (as in the glossy blue picture)

Although development probably has shifted to Windows Mobile 7..

* Interesting to note that Ballmer has stated that the Windows Phone 6.5 Launch is to compete with Android while Windows 7 will compete with the Iphone
Tegra II chip sets coming out second half of 2010 for smartphones, so who knows..

So if anyone wants to dump the Raphael ROM and extract some things from an early 6.5 ROM to adapt to Touch Pro 2 Kitchen, just send me a PM
