It is recommended NOT to restore a backup after a ROM update. Look at it like this:
You have Windows XP on your PC, you make a Ghost image of that (just in case) and then install Vista. If you restore the Ghost image, then you lose the "benefits" (sarcasm) of Vista. Not exactly the same, but the general principal is that any registry changes made in order for your new ROM to work optimally would be changed to your backup's values. Other items would also be changed to the backup's values. Just not a good idea.
