I did a hard reset on Sunday , ran the *228 and thought I had a working phone also, until I tried to dial out. I called Verizon , and since I was on that phone the tech just reset a few things and asked me to soft reset. Everything went OK but the tech said he had never seen anything like that before. I have a completely functional phone though so I can't help you with the other part but you are not alone with the reactivation sequence.
