Does anyone know the setting or program that allows the user to be able to read and write text messages through your contacts in manila?(2.1, Gen.Y) I remember being able to do this before, but I can't find the setting anymore.

That feature is contact specific. On people tab, choose all people, then choose the contact you want to message. Inside the contact are 5 sub tabs, just slide over to the messaging tab.
