at the moment this is the only way to root the droid. And that fix was submitted by cyanogen, as it is a bug hole in the 2.0 source to allow that. At the moment, if that hole gets fixed, there is not another way to root
afaik. Or to roll back to an older recovery image. I am working with a couple people on making a new recovery image, which hopefully we will have by the end of the weekend.
