Do you realize that link you shared is from the 2007/2008 fiscal year. That fiscal year ended in June 2008!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you need to start reading up on current mobile news. Here is a more recent one from last month:
http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic...lunge_20_in_Q3

The real kicker is that although smarthphones increase overall by 13%, Windows mobile plunged 20%.

Here is another quote:
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer criticized Windows Mobile in late September, saying that Microsoft had "screwed up with Windows Mobile." The company had recently reorganized the Windows Mobile team in advance of the 6.5 release and next year's 7.0 release.
Several industry analysts have questioned whether Windows Mobile will last beyond version 7.0.
The author of that article took the facts out of context, and by extension so did you.

What that article is saying, is that Microsoft's 3rd quarter sales declined by 20% over the same 3rd quarter of last year. Now, since we know MS had a record setting 3rd quarter last year, and subsidies are on a 2 year cycle, then it is no surprise that 3rd quarter sales were lower this year than last year.

The bottom line is there are more current Windows Mobile licenses out there right now than there have ever been before.

You could easily look at it like this:
Since we know they had a record setting 3rd quarter last year, and device subsidies are on a 2 year cycle (except iPhones, which AT&T caved and gave them all new customer prices to get the new model after a year), that means in another year they should have another record year for sales. Guess what else is currently scheduled for 1 year from now? That's right- WM 7. So at a time when they are already expecting record sales anyway, they are releasing the highly anticipated WM 7. I think you know where I'm going withthat so I'll just stop there.

As for Ballmer's comments- again, taken out of context. He was saying they had made some mistakes in the direction they took Windows Mobile in the past, but that they had already taken action to correct the mistakes. He was not implying that they were killing it off. He was saying something to the effect of, "It's pretty good right now, and it is going to get a whole lot better. We know we could have done some things better, and now we have a new team in place, working harder than ever before, to make it the best platform on the market for years to come."

The MS haters out there took his comments and twisted them into something along the lines of, "We know we screwed up. We're about ready to throw in the towel because there is no recovery at this point." And that is simply not what he meant at all.
