If you read the article about the CEO of HTC, it says that other manufacturers have dropped Winmo... but HTC is sticking with them (but they aren't happy with Microsoft).
Translation: HTC is really the only major manufacturer Microsoft has left... and it's not a really enthusiastic manufacturer.
Of course, Winmo will never go away since the giant Microsoft is behind it. But in reality, the writing is on the wall, the train has left the station... or whatever cliche you want to insert. Even in Winmo7 is a hit... by the time it comes out, the game might be over already.
Just as an example look at the MP3 market. For the longest time Microsoft was really the major player... then along came the iPod and it literally changed in 6 months. Microsoft responded with the Zune... a flop. Then they came out with the next generation Zune. Overall a really decent device. Unfortunately the game was already over.
