I would never use a landline. Electrical surges produced by the friction of tectonic platyes can be transferred through copper wiring and arc the speaker into my head. I personally use a remote system in which the phone connects to a speaker with a small laser diode connected to the cone. When the speaker produces sound, it vibrates the diode which is pointing at a sheet of glass 100 feet away (where i am). I then have a photosensitve diode interpret and reproduce the sound on a loudspeaker.
duh.
