Nope. Clipping that blue wire does no negative effects to the adapter. You dont have to buy no other cables! Save your money! If you have the free little headphone adapter that come with your phone, you dont have to buy a single thing! Crack it open, clip the blue wire and you saved yourself 20 bucks.

When you are using the modified dongle (either by clipping the blue wire, or removing pin 4), you are still able to plug in both the TV out cord as well as another USB for charging/syncing. Also, once you plug in your adapter the device goes into "TV OUT" mode.
