Along the same lines, I was wondering if there was a way to make program the key to make the phone go into standby instead of "lock". I usually just use standby but sometimes power down the phone on accident by pushing the power button too long. I think I could figure it out if I knew the shortcut/program that triggered standby.

I have no idea what your issue #1 is. Please post the exact error message you are receiving.
For the second question, my solution does lock and suspend. I
seriously recommend lock and suspend. Windows Mobile is a
terrible platform for pocket dialing if your device is not locked. Even when it was locked with the old style WM6.1 lock, any incoming call or SMS message would unlock the phone in your pocket and leave keys enabled. You're inviting disaster to leave a phone like this unlocked at any time. Even if you don't end up pocket dialing 911 and not realizing it until they are busting your door down, you may end up draining your battery with errant button presses and screen taps.
