I have been using PIM back-up but once I connect via active sync, both my contacts and calendar duplicate themselves. Also, PIM doesn't save any settings.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I just save the pim.vol file in the root directory and have it re-installed when I run sashimi after flashing or you can try HTC data backup
