I had the same thing happen to me (Did active sync, all contacts wiped out w/ Outlook's bank contact list from PC....)
DOH!
Lucky for myself, I have my old phone, and on this weekends trip to Best Buy I'll have them re-sync the contacts and then I'll use PIM BACKUP!!!!!!!!
