Better choice for consumers? No. For uneducated, unsophisticated ones, yes.
Because WinMo takes a little more involvement to figure out and doesn't have 100k of the most retarded apps on the planet, (but at least they can make fart noises and GPS tag them.) and the iPhone is totally locked down, it has been dubbed "The Idiots Smartphone."
