I use Google Sync with Activesync for Calendar only. My GMAIL has been too delayed (probably due to overload) far too often with Google Sync so I just use IMAP IDLE instead, works great.

Also I'm going to be trying the two recommended lock screen changers and it looks like SmartLock would be perfect for me; it's simple and I'll test to see if it "just works."
