Issue solved...I am on a Mac using Entourage 2008 Web Services and I kept noticing that certain contacts would be assigned a category that would have color associated with it. Didn't like that, so I would change the category to NONE. Well this also deleted my favorites from the people tab as the category in Entourage was HTC Favorites...
