I mentioned in a previous post I was able to get SMS working by selecting Generic as my carrier. Also I never ran into any build issues no matter what carrier I had. I have been sending and receiving texts all throughout the day on my latest rom with no issues.

I have been using the prebuilt ROMs from the beginning and 1.4 is the first SMS problem I have had as far as actually showing up as sent on the device but never going anywhere. Can receive fine. I just tried 6.5 1.4 one more time and it is a no go. Makes me sad.
