Chronster, I also snipped a wire at first for my TP1, then realized all it took was a reg edit (which could be toggled by an app someone made).
The reg/toogle method proved a better solution because I could choose whether or not I wanted the plug to be video out or straight up audio.
I actually lost my modified box and picked up another one at a sprint store, glad I didn't have to modify it this time.

Sure, nowadays we have a dedicated audio jack so it doesn't seem as important to be able to toggle... however, remember not all TP2's have that jack. The T-mobile version, for example, is stuck with the old extended-USB port for audio.
Plus, not having to modify another box and wrap with electrical tape would be nice.

Seems silly to do a messy hardware mod when it COULD be controlled via software.

How about this- someone who has a modified box: compare your registry values before you plug in the cable and when it is plugged in to see what changes. I'll bet we can find a value that controls it somewhere...
lol i remember that. Someone found the reg hack right after I did my little mod. Ah well, it all works the same. I basically had two multimedia adapters because I told the guys at the Sprint store that my phone didn'tcome with one. Sold the TP, kept the modded adapter, tried it out, and it worked fine.
