BTW, for a total newbie- the best thing would be a simplified and clean ROM, with not added "surprise" features.... no fancy apps and customizations cooked in, etc... then give them an autoinstall script with cabs and reg tweaks, which can be changed/modified/added to before or even after flashing. Solves a lot of the problems of attacking a kitchen head on yourself.
To be perfectly honest, I'm starting to wonder if its better to install via cab instead of cooking things in at all... when you find out something you cooked doesn't play nicely with another app, you have to start over and reflash. If you install via cab, you can uninstall the cab, or worst case scenario hard reset. I'm starting to wonder why we're all so gaga about things "cooked in" in the first place... But, that's just my opinion.
