I've had this happen to me twice now. Do you by chance set the Outlook option for attachments to use the storage card? I set mine that way and I believe that the memory card corruption bug bit me both times during sleep mode.
Either way, open up file explorer and navigate to the storage card. Look for a folder with Outlook in the name. Delete it. This allowed me to restart messaging with the card in place. I've since turned off the Attachments/Storage card pref (I don't bother with attachments anyways) and so far so good.
