OK, from your home screen, hide the clock by dragging it upwards displaying all of your shortcuts. Now, drag your finger from left to right in the center of the screen, it will display all of your options.
The way I have things set are to display 16, and auto-hide the slider:
Titanium - Go
Goldfish - Go
AutoLock - On
Alert - Off
Tab Icons - Off
Slider - On
Analog - Off
Mute - Off
Wallpaper - B
Weather - On
Calendar - 2
Shortcuts - 16
That should do just about the same for you and give you the options you want changed.
Regarding your battery question, I never looked into it personally so I wouldn't know if theres a cab out there or not to install the htc volume control.
