I unfortunately know exactly what happens with a Touch when it breaks.

After going through 2 refurbished touches (ppc 6900), Asurion upgraded me to a Diamond (ppc 6950). They gave me a refurbished diamond at first, but when the touchscreen died after a month, they sent me a new one.

If a phone you receive from Asurion doesn't last 90 days, you don't have to pay another deposit, so that made it worth it to call everytime I had a hardware error happen with a phone I received from them.
