The article was written almost 2 years ago so he is taking the view that a lower pagepool is also valuable if you are starved for ram. that isnt the case for the diamond so 24mb pp is a good number to go with. Some use less and dont see much of a difference though.
I've always found substantial SOTP performance improvements when running 32 MB PP. It does eat up some RAM, but I've never gotten a low memory message while using that setting.
