Well, Gator, you can change your background a couple of ways , depending on which rom and interface you are using. If you are using TouchFlo or Sense UI, just slide over to the settings tab, with the slider at the bottom of the screen. Tap on, change wallpaper, should be straight forward from there. You can browse internal memory or memory card.

Personally, I .cab up my own wallpapers for use with the newer manila's (sense UI) so that they can be on all tabs and different in landscape then portrait if I want. Which I also like to keep the weather animations intact with my wallpaper.

So, I just make cabs of my favorites every so often, or as I have time.
