That is a consequence of the fashion in which you restore your messages. It can happen w/ any ROM (and it usually just sends out your drafts). PIM Backup used to send out all my drafts upon restore so I switched to SPB Backup.

I'll edit my post so I don't blame the rom <3
it was apparently sending old txts/drafts or sending out blank txts (drafts, probably) to almost everyone on my list
it was just weird that it happened a while after i actually did the backup :/
reinstalled the rom - really liking it so far
