Well if the piece is connected using a ribbon cable that makes direct contact with spots on the digitizer then yes, you must find a way to make sure that the cable does not move AND that pressure is applied constantly to both components (so the cable does not lose contact). Usually these cables have either a piece of strong tape attached or the glue between the spots, if you cannot reuse the original connection, I'd recommend you use the tape if possible since the glue might insulate the spots.
