Well also simply because the homescreen is occupied by the 3 shortcuts now, 2.5 pretty much doesn't come with an option to remove those three in change for appointments.
Its pretty funny because the HTC spokesperson claims this is to make it closer to what the Hero interface has and even went as far as calling the tabs "widget-y". I mean clearly the guy doesn't know what he's talking about because facebook integration was available in 2.1 just not as detailed as it is now. In anycase it's even funnier that he says that turning off Sense UI would be a "challenge" and not a "one button" thing (I guess that's true) but "i'm sure some guys would figure it out" (wow...really? settings > today > uncheck HTC Sense).
