from what I have found -

android 2.0 does support email sync with exchange servers which is not the same as activesync. Basically this would be useful if you have a corporate exchange email server to connect to. Vzw will also require the higher level plan I believe.
what you can do w/android is;
1. use google sync to sync your outlook calendar with a gmail calendar which will sync with the android device (

2. export contacts from outlook and import them into gmail and then on to your android device. Obviously this is a manual process.
It appears there are some apps available to automate this, but again it is through a google account.
