It's possible if you are willing to use Apache and Z-Push. What exactly is your source of e-mail now? If it's just Gmail (which I would suggest moving to if possible) then you can just add m.google.com to ActiveSync as an exchange server. Provide us more details about what kind of e-mail account you use and I can make one work for you.
