Potrait/landscape issue

When I have my phone in my phone holster gimmick (on my belt) and I receive a call or text and pull it out its in the transition of switching from landscape to portrait. It does this even if the last view was portrait. For texts it disrupts the text showing at the bottom of the screen. For phone calls it delays how soon I can answer! I've missed quite a few calls because of that.

It seems as though the phone has a sensor of some sort to tell it when to switch (aside from when you push out the keyboard) is there anyway to disable this? so that it only switches from portrait to landscape or vice versa, when I pus out/in the keyboard?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chad
