umm, no. You extract the spl from your working device with itsutils. That's easy. The gist of how it USED to be done is:
1. extract spl
2. patch spl for running unsigned flashes
3. patch spl to disable overwriting itself
4. modify version string to show it's been altered
5. heavily patch spl to allow it to run from different location in memory (rebase and more)
6. jumpspl to the sspl (see step 5, that's sspl).

Now, the new devices are a bit different and for reasons of not wanting htc to change to much in the future, we're not going into that here.

Heck, long ago you didn't have to patch anything. Then cam only needing to patch spl and load it to it's normal place in memory... HTC slowly learns. It's a cat and mouse game. If the details were always published the changes would be too quick to keep up.
