I don't have any speed dials setup since I dial from Favorites in SPB MS3.5 but have you tried maybe memorizing your speed dial list? If ya did that then all ya gotta do is open your dialer then press and hold the speed dial number rather than scroll through your speed dial list. I dunno just throwing out suggestions lol, I don't know of a quick fix for ya using the stock dialer. Other options would be perhaps iDialer/iContact or Resco Contact Manager. I believe those allow you to assign what get's opened when you press the green Send/Call button.
