Why is anyone even raising a question about Nextel/Boost SIM cards? The iDen network has absolutely nothing to do with GSM networks, and would have no bearing on whether or not a TP2 would work better at home using a GSM sim, as they are NOT GSM. Using a SIM card does not make you GSM, as having a transmission does not make a Chrysler a Ford.
